Got Posture? Come to the Dark Side
Hello my friends,
Have you been fighting Nature?
I do it daily. I sweep my patio only to look at the path next to it, buried in leaves, knowing someone with a leaf blower will come around and blow half of them right back onto the nicely cleaned floor.
People are like that with posture, fighting Nature. Everyone wants to look good, but they tend to go about it the hard way.
Let me ask; have you ever wanted to have good posture and pulled yourself up straight to look good?
Did you notice how much effort that takes, and eventually fall back into your usual posture?
People are often surprised to discover the spine isn’t actually straight; it has curves. It is not meant to be like a ruler or a yardstick. Pulling yourself up straight doesn’t work.
You’re fighting Nature, and guess who will win that battle?
It’s like me, sweeping the leaves off my patio in the morning. They’re only a a few feet away on the path, waiting for me to turn my back…a breeze to blow…a leaf-blower to turn in my direction…or a tree, ready to shake its branches and drop its leaves the moment my back is turned. Nature sneaks up on you that way.
Sometimes it’s fun to walk in a pile of dry leaves, crunch, crunch, and remember that childhood pleasure, shuffling through leaves underfoot. Celebrating Nature; sometimes you’ve just got to go with the flow.
As for good posture, why not have that the easy way, too?
Let it go, let the tension go; stop “holding yourself in good posture.”
Good posture is natural. It’s a function of moving well, in accord with the design of the body. Alexander Technique helps undo the extraneous effort so many of us create, thinking we can “do” posture better than Nature.
Call it coming to the dark side: the flip side, where yielding to good posture also feels good.
Falling into alignment with ease.
Yes, it is possible. Ask me about it!
